Mary Ellen Rosnow, 71, of Leonard, died on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at the First Care Hospital in Fosston, of complications from diabetes and cancer.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley with the Rev. Tom Jacobson officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sinclair Township Cemetery in rural Leonard.
She was born on June 18, 1937, to Henry and Olga (Wahlers) Tews in Shellrock Township, near Myrtle, Minn. She was confirmed on May 13, 1951, the same day as her husband, Eugene "Gene" Rosnow, though they had not yet met. She was baptized at the same church she was confirmed at. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1955. On April 18, 1956, she married Gene. She worked with her husband farming, haying, milking cows and caring for her family. They moved from Austin, Minn., to Leonard, in 1976. She enjoyed dancing at Polka fests, gardening, roller-skating, cooking and baking, riding motorcycles, and feeding the birds and squirrels. She saw to it that her family never ran out of clean clothes at home. "Mother Mary" also worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook from 1993 to 2006. Memorable highlights include celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in 1996 and their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006.
She is survived by her husband, Gene of Leonard; sons, Mark (Sue) Rosnow of Bemidji, Thomas (Laurie) Rosnow of Leonard, Robert (Kori) Rosnow of Pinewood, Jerald (Denise) Rosnow of Sharon, N.D., David (Peggy) Rosnow of Gully, Daniel (Becky) Rosnow of McIntosh and Joseph (Jamie) Rosnow of Fosston; daughter, Janet (Russell) Rosnow of Niverville, Manitoba, Canada; two daughter-in-laws; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; step-mother, Irene and sisters, Leona, Betty and Alice.
