Mary Ann Nipp, 72, of Nebish, MN died on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Blackduck, MN

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at St. Johns Catholic Church in Nebish, MN with Fr. Raul Perez-Cobo officiating. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. with a 4 p.m. prayer service on Saturday, July 12 at the church. Burial will be at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Nebish, MN. Active pallbearers will be her four grandsons, Chris Joy, T.J. Turner, Travis Turner and Steven Sunell and two nephews, Joey Nipp and Kelly Nipp. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cease Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

She was born on May 28, 1942 in Walsh County, North Dakota to Leroy and Cora Mae (Sempf) Hamilton. She grew up and attended school in Bemidji, graduating in 1960 then moved to the Blackduck area. She married Alfred Nipp on October 17, 1981 in Blackduck, MN and she lived with her husband on Sunshine Farm in Nebish for the past 32 years.

Mary had a variety of jobs including speech technician, elementary librarian, working in numerous businesses in town as well as running her own craft store and being involved with CEP for 13 years at the US Forest Service in Blackduck working out at Camp Rabideau and at Forestry Hill. Most recently, she worked as a foster grandparent reading to the elementary students. She wrote a column for the Blackduck American for many years and was a Boy and Girl Scout leader.

She served as a First Responder for 13 years, was a township fire warden for more than 10 years, was a member of the Lady Slippers Homemakers, an election judge, was involved in the creation of the Blackduck History Center. She was also involved with the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway project, the American Legion and Northern Pines auxiliaries. She was an active member of St. Johns Parish.

She is survived by her husband, Al Nipp of Nebish, MN; three children, Jim (Mary) Joy of Hines, MN, Barb (Mike) Sunell of Blackduck and Laurie (Todd) Turner of Cannon Falls, MN; 7 grandchildren, Nicole (Mike) Eck of Bemidji, Chris (Tess) Joy of Bemidji, Sandy (David Knott) Miller of Virginia Beach, VA, LeaAnne (Saul) Contreras of Virginia Beach, VA, Steven Sunell of Blackduck, T.J. Turner of Minneapolis and Travis Turner of Brooklyn, NY; 5 great-grandchildren, Jace and Alena Knott, Madden and Breyah Eck and Mia Contreras; a sister, Laura (Jerry) Poole of Tustin, CA; 3 sisters-in-law, Edith Nipp, Norma Finberg and Sharron Hamilton and 1 brother-in-law, Carl Nipp and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Cora Mae Hamilton; 3 brothers, Roy, Alexander and George Hamilton; a sister- and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Jack Puschinsky and a brother-in-law, Joe Nipp.
