Child, father die after kayak overturns on Hart Lake in Hubbard County

Mary "Angie" Angeline (Morrison) Lyons

Mary "Angie" Angeline (Morrison) Lyons, Ma-Soj, (Bear Clan), 91, of Red Lake, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Red Lake Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake with the Rev. Pat Sullivan officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with the arrangements.

She was born Aug. 11, 1917, to Joseph and Esther (Johnson) Morrison in Red Lake. She grew up in Red Lake and graduated from Red Lake Boarding School. She attended to Haskell University in Lawrence, Kan. She served with the Women's Army Corps in the U.S. Army.

She married Joseph Lyons June 29, 1942, in Redby. They lived in Red Lake.

She loved to watch sports, westerns and loved to read. She helped raise several grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Dana (Maureen) Lyons Sr. of Redby; adopted son, David Allen Lyons of Red Lake; daughters, Mavis (Allen) Lyons of Redby, Ardelle Lyons of Red Lake and Lavonne Loud of Bloomington, Minn.; a special granddaughter, who she raised from birth, Shana Root of Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Ruby Blackwell of Warren, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Loren; a granddaughter; and twin grandchildren.
