Marvin Arthur August "Sonny" Fredrickson

Marvin Arthur August "Sonny" Fredrickson, 81, of rural Bagley, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at his home.

A memorial and military service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Bagley with the Rev. Rick Moore officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, with a family service at 7 p.m., at Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley. Burial will be in Nora Township Cemetery in Bagley in the spring.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Melinda (Blomberg) Carlson of Roseau, Minn., Leanne (Blomberg) Avery of Kingdom, Ariz., and Rich Blomberg of Bemidji; and great-grandchildren, Savannah and Elias Carlson; Karlie, Micah, Josiah and Abraham Avery; and Taylor and Ashdyn Blomberg.

He was born July 23, 1927, to Martin and Lydia (Treichel) Fredrickson of Alida, Minn. He attended school in Alida. He lived and farmed for more than 60 years in Nora Township. He served in the military from June 1953 to April 1955. He earned the rank of corporal in the 502nd Engineer Co. and was a bridge specialist and heavy vehicle driver. He was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post of Bagley. He accepted Jesus into his life in May 1955.

He married Sophie Rolf June 4, 1955, at the Congregational Church in Bagley. In July of 1955, he was baptized by immersion by the Rev. Spencer Bower.

He attended Calvary Bible Church, formerly the Congregational Church, until December 1976. He was an active member of the Berean Baptist Church of Bagley from 1979-2008. He served on several church boards, taught Sunday school and was a youth group leader. He was currently attending Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Bagley. He served on the Nora Township Board and the elevator board and was a member of the Headwaters Regional Finance Corporation for 21 years. He received the Valley Farmer Award at the Red River Valley Winter Shows in Crookston in 1983. He retired from farming in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing games with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sophie; son, Dwight (Laura) Fredrickson of Oakbrook, Ill.; daughter, Mary (Michael) Brazee of Lanesboro, Minn.; twin brother, Marlyn (Helen) Fredrickson of Bagley; sister, Jean Johnson of Rutherfordton, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald, Allen (Ken) and Neil; and sisters, Ruth, June Morken, Pearl Rasmussen, Grace Kroon, Lillian Pyle and Dorothy Rosier.
