Martin Thomas Papp, 72 of Bemidji entered into rest Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji, MN with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home with military honors by the VFW of Bemidji.

He was born March 24, 1941 in Bemidji, MN the son of Martin Papp, Sr. and Martha (Coultas) Papp. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji. After graduating from Bemidji High School, he enlisted in the Army, where he served from January 24, 1961 and was honorably discharged on January 24, 1964, being awarded a Parachutist Badge (his wings). After being discharged from the Army, Martin moved to Port Monmouth, NJ where he met and married Linda Schlagentweith. They had two sons, Martin III and Glenn. Martin formed his own construction company, Lin-Mar Builders. He was very proud of his company and took great pride in his accomplishments. Martin and Linda eventually divorced and Martin moved back to Bemidji. He met Gertrude Head and they became engaged in 2000. Gertrude spent the last several years caring for Martin during his illnesses. In Martins younger days, he enjoyed playing golf, pool, hunting and fishing. In his later days when he was homebound, Martin enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially his favorite (Tiger Woods) and watching the History and Discovery channels. Martin also enjoyed the company of Cassie Gehrke, his Personal Care Attendant, and her toddler son, Elijah.

Martin is survived by his fianc Gertrude Head of Bemidji; two sons Martin III and Glenn; three sisters Maryann Papp of Bemidji, Marlyce (Oscar) Skogen of Shevlin and Judy Hayes of Bemidji; one brother Andrew (Pamela) Papp of Bemidji and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
