Marion E. Yocom, 81, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes.

Marion was born the daughter of Thor and Flossie (Wilson) Tarnstrom on May 7, 1927, in Minneapolis, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Edison High School.

Marion married Vernon Yocom on March 26, 1947 in Albert Lea, Minn. They made their home in Minneapolis and later moved to Detroit Lakes, in 1968.

Marion was very proud of her family and loved being a mom to her seven children. She was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church. She served on several church committees and took pleasure participating in her church circle.

Marion enjoyed many vacations at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin, the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, trips to Montana and visiting her children and grandchildren. She also loved to read, cook, and for many years, was an active member of the Detroit Lakes Dance Club with her husband, Vern.

Marion is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Dittmar of Maple Grove, Minn., and Ann (Thomas) Seim of Detroit Lakes; five sons, Craig (Kristi) Yocom of Shoreline, Wash., Daniel (Joy Wheeler) Yocom of Detroit Lakes, Thomas (Cindi) Yocom of Winter Springs, Fla., Jonathan (Natalee) Yocom of Detroit Lakes, Joseph (Amy) Yocom of Matthews, N.C.; nine grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; one great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Marion in death were her parents; husband Vern (2007); and brother, Bob Tarnstrom.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials are preferred sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes.
