Marilyn Kaasa, 75
Marilyn Kaasa, 75, of Bemidji, died on Friday, April 27, 2007, at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji with Rev. Kent Dudley officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Frohn Township.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Alanna Phillips, Kassie O'Keefe, Sean Phillips, Jennalee O'Keefe and Jeremy O'Keefe.
Pallbearers will be Jim Eichstadt, Michael Eichstadt, Gary Kaasa, Gordie Kaasa, Robert Kaasa and Larry Miller.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1931, to John and Mabel (Kolkin) Schroth, in Bemidji. She attended Eichstadt School in Frohn Township and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1949. Following high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Land-O-Lakes Creamery in Bemidji. On May 17, 1952, she married Arthur Kaasa, in Bemidji. She worked at an insurance company in town for several years. For more than 25 years, she worked at Pamida (Gibson's), and she worked at a local fabric store for a short time before her retirement.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, traveling and handcrafts. She also loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of Bemidji; daughters, Sharon (Charles) Phillips of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Cindy (Michael) O'Keefe of Grand Forks, N.D.; five grandchildren; sisters, Verna (Arnold) Eichstadt of Bemidji and Avis Harris of Albuquerque, N.M.; and brother, Larry (MaryJane) Schroth of Deer River, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sons, John and Jerry; brothers, Wayne and Richard Schroth; and sisters, Lois Erickson and Merle Bahr.
