Former Perham resident Marie L. Schroeder, 93, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 in her home.
Marie Louise Schroeder was born the daughter of Louis and Helen (Fritsch) Schroeder on Dec. 18, 1915, in Perham. Marie led a simple, country life; never needing or wanting any more than to care for her horses and her family. She loved her family of horses and raised and trained five wonderful animals for over 30 years of her life.
Marie was very involved with the equestrian sport, and traveled widely with her horse. She was involved with teaching showmanship and was an adult leader for the East Otter Tail 4-H program, helping to teach the youngsters training skills and proper care for their animals.
Later in life, Marie became very active in Senior Citizen's Rights and was very vocal about their cause. She served as treasurer for the Detroit Lakes area chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons and made several trips to the Capitol, speaking on behalf of all seniors in this country.
Marie remained active in senior's rights until her time of death.
Surviving Marie are her nephews, David Kontz, Douglas (Janna) Kontz, Gary (Caiyun) Kontz and Ron Kontz; niece, Sandy (Gary) McGee; three great nephews; five great nieces and one great-great niece.
Preceding Marie in death were her parents and two sisters, Bernice Rosenthal and Ann Kontz.
Visitation was scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, with the Rev. Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
