Marie P. Neitzke, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Marie was born to George and Caroline (Nelson) Paulson on April 22, 1918 in Minneapolis. She was a 1937 graduate of Blooming Prairie High School and also a graduate of the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. Following her education, she worked as a secretary for Federated Insurance Company in Owatonna, Minn.; Standard Oil Company in Mason City, Iowa, and Shell Oil in Seattle, Wash.
Marie married C.P. "Pete" Neitzke on Aug. 17, 1944 in Blooming Prairie, Minn. They made their home in Miami, Fla., Detroit Lakes and Sun City, Ariz. Pete died in 1986. Marie was a long time member of the Damian Society, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and Holy Rosary Christian Mothers. She also was a volunteer for many organizations over the years. Marie's interests included crafts, golf and playing bridge. Her family was her pride and joy.
Surviving Marie are her children, John (Marie) Neitzke of Grand Rapids, Minn., Thomas (JoEllen) Neitzke of Detroit Lakes, Ronald (Jean) Neitzke of Alexandria, Va., Dennis (Susan) Neitzke of Grand Rapids, Minn., Mary Gallagher of Brunswick, Ohio and Julie Neitzke of Roseville, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Pete, Marie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, a granddaughter and a niece.
Memorials are preferred sent to Hospice Of The Red River Valley or Holy Rosary Church.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the mass on Friday at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
