Marie Evelyn Kolstad, 92, of Bemidji, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.
Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born July 21, 1916, to Ole and Marie (Ingdahl) Kolstad in Bemidji. She attended school in Turtle River with her brother. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, singing in its choir in the early days. She was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Turtle River. She wrote the Turtle River News for the Bemidji Pioneer and worked at Al's Café in Bemidji and at the Turtle Club.
She enjoyed people and would sit at the waterfront visiting with tourists and listening to the Twins on her ever-present radio, usually ending the day at the Markham hotel visiting with Greyhound bus passengers. She kept close watch on the news, City Council meetings and world happenings. She was a member of the Sons of Norway since 1970. She and her mother moved to Northland Apartments in 1968 and she lived there until moving to Havenwood Care Center in 2000.
She is survived by a sister-in-law and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
