Marcils donate $2M to N.D. universities
The chairman of Forum Communications Co., and his wife are pledging $1 million dollars each to the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University, to help build new homes for the schools' presidents and fund scholarships.
William Marcil and his wife, Jane, are making the gift through the William C. and Jane B. Marcil Charitable Foundation.
Marcil, who is the publisher of The Forum as well as the chairman and chief executive officer of Forum Communica-tions Co., which owns the Bemidji Pioneer, said his fam-ily has ties to both universities.
The UND president's house in Grand Forks is under con-struction and is expected to be finished this summer or fall. The NDSU president's house in Fargo is in the planning stages and should be done within 18 months.
The gift will be made in five annual $200,000 payments to each university foundation starting this spring.
Marcil was a charter mem-ber of the NDSU Development Foundation in 1970 and re-ceived the foundation's service award in 2003. NDSU awarded him an honorary doctorate degree in 1993.
He earned a business ad-ministration degree from UND in 1958, and in 1990 received the Sioux award, the highest honor awarded by the UND Alumni Association.
Jane Marcil attended NDSU.
