Man shot at in Akeley area
Hubbard County Sheriff Frank Homer reported that on Friday, May 21, at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office received a call from a man who was at the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office in Bemidji.
The man explained that earlier in the day, he had pulled into the Wayne Herdina residence located approximately one mile east of the city of Akeley. The caller said he was about to exit his vehicle when he heard two gunshots, and then he saw Joshua Herdina, 35, formerly of the Akeley area, walking towards him yelling "Get off my property."
The caller began backing out of the driveway when he saw Herdina point a handgun at him and shoot six more times toward the vehicle.
The caller reported that one round went through the windshield and lodged in the dashboard.
He left the area and met with law enforcement officers in Bemidji.
He later met with Hubbard County Law Enforcement officers and provided a statement about the incident. A search warrant was then executed at the residence of Wayne Herdina, Josh's father, to locate the whereabouts of Josh Herdina.
Evidence was obtained from the scene, but Josh Herdina's whereabouts were unknown.
The Hubbard/Wadena Emergency Response team then checked a second residence, with no results.
Josh Herdina remains at large and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office at 218-732-3331.
The incident remains under investigation with charges to follow.
