Firefighters were called at 11 p.m. to an apartment building on East Vernon Avenue after a woman in the building was awakened by her smoke detector.

Rescue crews saw flames in a lower-level apartment unit and started evacuating the building.

Police had to force open a door on the lower level and pulled out a man who was unconscious.

The 36-year-old was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center with burns and smoke inhalation.

Two police officers were taken to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls for minor smoke inhalation.

It's not clear yet what started the fire.
