Man charged with criminal sex
Matthew Thomas Huffman, 24, of Bemidji, pleaded innocent Monday in Beltrami County District Court to serious felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 28 before Judge John Melbye. Meanwhile, he remains in custody in the Beltrami County Jail.
According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 7, a woman came to the Bemidji Law Enforcement Center to report that the night before, Sept. 6, her 15-year-old daughter had sex with Matthew Thomas Huffman, who was 23 at the time. The girl reported that the sex was in the back seat of Huffman's car and was consensual.
The complaint states that Huffman said he had sex with the girl, but that she told him she was 18. However, another girl, who said she was with Huffman and the alleged victim Sept. 6, said she told Huffman the girl was 15.
Huffman is on probation for a March 2004 conviction for felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The victim in that case was a 15-year-old girl.
