Man arrested for toddler's murder in Ada last summer
DILWORTH – A man was arrested here this morning, accused of murdering his girlfriend’s 22-month-old daughter in Ada in August.
Raul Perez, 24, was arrested at 211 6th St. N.W. in Dilworth on a warrant for second-degree murder charges, according to news release the Ada Police Department sent this afternoon. The charges have been filed in Norman County District Court.
Police state in the release that Reyes was living in Ada with his girlfriend and her daughter, Ariel Reyes, on Aug. 29, when police responded to a 911 call just before noon from the home at 100 E. Thorpe Ave. No. 5.
Perez was caring for Reyes while her mother was grocery shopping, police said in the release.
When medics arrived at the home, Perez was attempting to give the girl mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Reyes was taken to the Bridges Medical Center in Ada then flown to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Two days later, Reyes was declared brain dead and was taken off life support. She died Aug. 31.
After an autopsy was conducted in Grand Forks, N.D., the medical examiner ruled Reyes death a homicide and attributed the cause of death to be head and neck trauma. Perez is currently being held in the Tri-County Correctional Facility in Crookston, Minn.
He is expected to appear in Norman County District Court on Friday.
