Mahnomen woman dies in collision with semi trailer

The Minnesota State Patrol based in Thief River Falls reported a fatal accident Saturday morning.

According to the report:

At 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Gina M. Thompson, 23, of Mahnomen, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina south on state Highway 59 about two miles south of Mahnomen when she lost control on the icy road, and her car fishtailed across both traffic lanes. Her vehicle was facing southwest in the northbound traffic lane when it was struck by a 2005 Freightliner semi trailer driven by Dean H. Sather, 67, of Badger, Minn. Thompson was killed in the collision. Sather had no apparent injuries.

The Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office assisted the State Patrol.
