Mahnomen deputy being transferred to rehab center in Denver

FARGO - Mahnomen County (Minn.) Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Dewey will be transferred later this week to a rehabilitation hospital in Denver.

Dewey, who was shot in the head and abdomen while on duty two weeks ago in Mahnomen, is headed to Craig Hospital, which specializes in brain and spinal cord injuries, according to a news release.

He is in satisfactory condition at a Fargo hospital, where he was airlifted after the Feb. 18 shooting.

Thomas Lee Fairbanks and Daniel Kurt Vernier have been charged in the incident. Fairbanks is accused of shooting Dewey.
