Lynne M. Balash, 57, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Blackduck, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn., after battling cancer.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Dawn Valley Funeral Chapel in Bloomington with the Rev. James Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Dawn Valley Cemetery in Bloomington at a later date.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1951, to Leonard and Leora M. (Carlson) Balash in Bemidji. She was raised on a farm in rural Blackduck. She attended Blackduck School and graduated, with honors, from Blackduck High School, in 1969. She moved to Wadena, Minn., following graduation and attended Wadena Technical College. Following graduation she worked at Midwest Federal, United Mortgage Corp. and Bank One. In 1998, she began work at the law offices of Briggs & Morgan in Minneapolis and worked there until her health forced her into retirement.
She enjoyed going to the Ordway Theater, working in her floral gardens and making scrapbooks of her travels. She enjoyed making candy and caramel corn and sharing it with her friends and fellow employees. She enjoyed traveling to different countries and states.
She was an organ donor. She donated her eyes at the time of her death.
She didn't have a lot of relatives, but she was survived by many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1978 and her mother in 2002.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
