Lumberjacks win title at Hibbing
Individual titles at second, third and fourth singles powered the Bemidji girls tennis team to the championship of Saturday's Hibbing Invitational.
With Bemidji's action completed but also with matches still in progress, the Lumberjacks had 28 points and couldn't be caught. The rest of the field included Stillwater, Hibbing, Duluth East, Totino Grace, Virginia, Grand Rapids and Eveleth.
"It was a great day," said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "Everybody came up with big points. Up and down the lineup this was the best we have played all season."
The Lumberjacks lost only one match in singles play. Jess Solberg went 2-1 and finished second at first singles while Amy Frosaker, Claudia Bellew and MacKenzie Schultz all were 3-0 and claimed second, third and fourth singles.
In doubles play, Emma Nielsen and Katie Ditmanson finished 2-1 at first doubles while Claire Baumgartner and Alexis Konecne went 1-2 at second. Annika Johnson and Francesca Huerd teamed for a 2-1 record and the consolation title at third doubles.
