CROOKSTON -- The Bemidji boys tennis team opened its spring campaign on a positive note Tuesday as the Lumberjacks slapped Crookston 5-2 in Crookston.

On Thursday BHS is scheduled to entertain Grand Rapids at 2 p.m. and Park Rapids at 5 p.m. and, barring another unexpected dose of winter, it appears that those matches will be held.

Tuesday at Crookston Bemidji took three of the four singles matches and claimed two of the three doubles bouts.

Matt Hokanson opened the day with a 6-4, 3-6, (10-7) victory at first singles and Noah Holter blitzed Andy Gregg 6-2, 6-3 at second.

Kevin Sorenson also prevailed in singles, stopping Jake Widseth 7-5, 3-6, (10-5) at fourth singles.

Bemidji’s lone singles loss came at third where Spencer Konecne fell 6-0, 6-1.

Gabe Heifort and Robert Treuer set the tone in doubles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at first. The Jacks also prevailed at third doubles where Evan White and Garrett Atteberry posted a 6-4, 6-1 triumph.

At second doubles Bemidji’s Kole Pankow and Sam Howard lost 2-6, 6-3, (11-9) in a marathon battle.
