"We started out a little rugged which is to be expected because many of our girls had never played this course before," said BHS coach Jeff Nelson. "It's a short course but you have to play target golf. Because there are hazards everywhere you have to be accurate with every shot.

"And if you are playing it for the first time it can be intimidating.

Detroit Lakes took the team crown by shooting 346. St. Cloud Tech was a distant second at 355 and Grand Rapids third at 361.

Claiming fourth at 370 was Providence Academy while Brainerd finished at 372 and Bemidji at 374.

Another six teams trailed the Lumberjacks.

Tabatha Kunst of Duluth East earned medalist honors by shooting 73.

Katelin Craft and Erin Buckanaga fired 93s for Bemidji and Hailey Hinners shot 101. Completing Bemidji's scoring were Morgan Miller's 10 and Savanna Hanson's 114.

Bemidji will return to duty Friday when it hosts its annual invitational at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

"We'll know more about our potential after we play outside for awhile," Nelson said. "We'll give all the kids a chance to play at that meet and then we'll have a better idea of where we stand."
