Lueken's Village Foods CEO Brent Sicard on Thursday presented the Bemidji Community Food Shelf a check for $5,000 to further fund the Community Meat Program. In May, Lueken's pledged to donate to the inaugural program each quarter and provided meat processing equipment and training. This summer's fundraising efforts exceeded expectations and the funding for the program should last well past the Food Shelf's quarterly needs. "This donation is a collaborative effort between the Bemidji community and our own philanthropic efforts," Sicard said in a release. "Bemidji stepped up big time, and we are proud to match their efforts and donate a $5,000 check to such a wonderful and needed program. Unfortunately, hunger is a very real issue in our community and the need for more meat for the Food Shelf will surface again."
