Lucy E. Donnell, 75, of Deer River, Minn., died Monday, March 30, 2009, at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the new Bena Community Center. A visitation was held on Thursday.
Carroll Funeral Home of Deer River assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born Feb. 18, 1934, to Ernest and Margaret Lyons in Bena. She grew up in Bena and lived for a short time in Yampa, Colo., from 1944-1945. She worked as a lab technician at the Deer River Hospital before she married Leo Donnell. March 22, 1962, in Ball Club. They raised their family in Deer River. She was a mother and a homemaker and also owned and operated a beauty shop out of their home. She worked various jobs throughout her life. She drove a school bus for the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School. She worked for the forestry and at the casino. She enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and picking berries. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making quilts and spending time with her friends and families.
She is survived by her husband of Deer River; children, Marc Lyons of Bena, Dianna Donnell of Olalla Wash., George "Chop" Donnell of Cass Lake, Cecilia "Cece" Donnell of Detroit Lakes and Mary Donnell of Deer River; brother, Douglas Lyons of Bena; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James "Speed" Lyons; a granddaughter and a nephew.
