Lucille Ruttger

Lucille Marie Forester Ruttger, 93, of Bemidji died Sunday, Nov. 24th, 2013.

Private family services will be held at a future date. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family.

Lucille was born April 9, 1920, in Bemidji, the daughter of Joseph and Grace (Riley) Forester. She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1938 and was the Bemidji Winter Carnival Queen that same year. Lucille met Donald Ruttger, owner of Ruttgers Birchmont Lodge, and they were married at the resort on September 16, 1944. Lucille and Don worked hard for many years to create wonderful family vacation experiences at their resorts in both Bemidji and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Lucille loved the outdoors and excelled at many outdoor activities, particularly bird hunting, fishing and golf. Another passion was baking, and no one could quite make "Lucys Luscious Lemon Bread" (a staple on the Birchmont menu) taste quite as delicious as she could.

Lucille is survived by two children, Randy (Tina) Ruttger of Bemidji, Sally Ruttger of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two grandchildren; Taylor Marie Ruttger of Slade, Kentucky, Ryan Joseph Ruttger of Minneapolis, and a sister- Ruth L. Geror of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at
