Lucelia G. Smith, 91, of White Earth, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Lucelia Grace Boswell was born to George and Sophie "Mindemoyahn" (Rock) Boswell on Jan. 19, 1918 in White Earth. She was raised in Pine Point Township near Ponsford, and attended school in Pine Point, the Flandreau (S.D.) Indian School and the White Earth Mission School.
Lucelia married Steven Smith. She then worked as a cook for logging camps in the Walker-Nevis area. Steven died in 1952. Lucelia moved to Minneapolis in the early 1950s, to White Earth in 2000 and in 2003, to Oak Crossing (formerly St. Mary's Nursing Center) in Detroit Lakes.
Surviving Lucelia are her four sons, Duane Conklin of Everett, Wash., Ed (Sandi) Smith of Pine Point, Richard VanMeder of Wisconsin and Melvin Smith of Minneapolis; daughters Renee Martin of St. Paul, Jan (Paul) Bohling of Aberdeen, S.D., LuAnn Smith of Seattle, Wash., Sharon Smith of Bemidji, Lorelei Robinson of Blooming Prairie, Minn., and Leah Olson of Austin, Minn.; as well as numerous grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Melvin "Ole" Boswell of Minneapolis.
In addition to her husband, Lucelia was preceded in death by two sons, Roger and Steven; her parents; brothers, Cyral Howard, Clifford, John, Fred and Bill Boswell; and sisters, Evelyn Leitheiser, Anna Goodman, Myrtle Thompson, Agnes, Rose and Katherine.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 until the start of services on Monday at the Old Pine Point School.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford, with the Rev. Lisa Smith officiating. Interment will be in Pine Point Township.
