Lorraine Adelynne (Boe) Johnson, 85, of Bemidji, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji with the Rev. James Darchuk officiating.
The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born May 17, 1923, to Alfred and Lyla (Spillum) Boe in Cooperstown, N.D. She graduated from Mayville State Teachers College in Mayville, N.D., majoring in music and elementary education. She married Donald Roger Johnson July 8, 1944, in Treasure Island, Calif. She worked as an elementary school teacher and music teacher in McVille, Cooperstown and Buxton, N.D., and Climax, Minn.; taught homebound students in Waubun and gave voice and piano lessons in Waubun and Trimont, Minn. While living in Duluth, Minn., she worked for Blood Donors Inc. as an executive secretary. She performed in operas and sang with the musical group "Carillon Chorale." After retiring in 1980, she and her husband moved to Sedona, Ariz., where they owned a gift shop. She was a church organist and choir director. Since 1994, she has made Bemidji her home.
She was an accomplished pianist, organist and soloist. She enjoyed sports and hand work, especially quilting, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Bastien of Bemidji, Vicki Johnson of Bemidji; son, Donald (Linda) Johnson of Sedona; brothers: Myron (LaVonne) Boe of Lompoc, Calif., and Granville (Shirley) Boe of Callaway, Minn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Jean Anderson.
The family requests memorials be sent to North Country Hospice, the Bemidji Senior Nutrition Program or First Lutheran Church of Bemidji.
