Long-range shots lift Bemidji St. to victory

MINOT, N.D. — Bemidji State’s long-range shooting led to an 81-70 victory over Minot State Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women’s basketball.

The Beavers from Bemidji made a season-high 12 baskets from 3-point range. Senior guard Shannon Thompson fired in six of them, scoring 24 points. BSU improved to 10-13 overall and 6-13 in the NSIC heading into today’s game at the University of Mary.

Junior Jessie Althoff went 6-for-10 from the field and added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Bemidji State. Junior Morgan Lee contributed 14 points and sophomore Allison McKee had a career-high 13 points.

A 12-2 run, powered by three straight 3-pointers by Thompson, helped Bemidji State pull into an 11-point lead early in the second half. Minot State clawed back within four with six minutes left, but Thompson and Althoff each hit two free throws to keep the host team at bay.
