Local middle school student advances to Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee
BEMIDJI – A local seventh-grader has advanced to the state spelling bee.
Riley Flint, a Bemidji Middle School Kappa Pod student, was among four spellers last week who qualified for the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee, set for Tuesday in Fergus Falls.
Flint was among 42 students in grades 5-8 who competed in the Feb. 13 Regional Spelling Bee in Thief River Falls after advancing from their local competitions.
Spellers first participated in a written round, from which 24 students moved on to an oral round.
Flint was among the top four spellers who advanced to the state-level competition. The championship speller from the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee will compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Flint’s journey began with the 2013 Bemidji Area Schools Spelltacular. She was one of five top finishers who moved on to the regional competition.
