Lila Jane (Odland) Suvanto, 68, of Menahga, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1941 to Henry and Elma (Stahl) Hepola in Menahga, where she was raised and attended school. She married Linden Odland on Dec. 20, 1958. They had seven children.
She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Menahga. She was a life member of the Menahga VFW, where she served as president, senior vice president, conductress and musician. She was also a member of the American Legion and Menahga Gateway Lions, where she was gambling manager. On April 27, 2002 she married Alvin Suvanto. They lived in Menahga and spent winters in Mesa, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Suvanto; four sons: Lindy (Kristi), of Menahga, Gary, of Molalla, Ore., Oscar, of Park Rapids, and Andy, of Menahga; six sisters: Mary Ann Lindula, of Edgewood, Wash., Inga Palola, of Two Harbors, Lempi (Jack) Molenda, of Arlington, Wash., Edna Roenneberg, of DeSoto, Wis., Irene Nordby, of Menahga, and Betty Turpin, of Helena, Mont.; a brothers, William Hepola, of Auburn, Wash.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Aili and Amy; two daughters: Roxanne and Faye Dawn; and a son, Robert.
Honorary casket bearers: All of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Active casket bearers: Andy Bimberg, Aaron Fairbanks, Shawn Mattila, Eddie Lund, Kyle Odland and Duane Paulson.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. today (Saturday), March 21 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga with Pastor Steven A. Bruer officiating. Shirley Anderson will serve as organist. Special music includes Romyn Hanks singing "The Dance" and a recording of "Sissy's Song." Congregational hymns are "On Eagles Wings," "Amazing Grace" and "Just As I Am."
Interment: Shell City Cemetery.
