MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ An Elk River man was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the killing of the mother of his young daughter, and then trying to make it look like a suicide.

Hennepin County District Judge Regina Chu sentenced Richard Scheibe, 34, to an automatic life term for first-degree murder. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.

Before the sentence, Scheibe told Chu, "It's tragic for everyone, all of the families and me and all involved and it is with deep remorse that such tragedy exists," according to a news release from the county attorney's office.

To which Chu replied, "the tragedy that everyone is experiencing was created by you. I don't see any remorse," the release said.

Scheibe pleaded guilty last month in the shooting death of Amy Jean Woollard, 28, of Bloomington.

Authorities said a dispute over child support and paternity apparently led Scheibe to shoot Woollard in a Bloomington church parking lot last August, and then try to make it look like a suicide -- completed with a note and a .22-caliber pistol left near Woollard's right hand.
