Life saving award received by trooper
At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 10, Sgt. Jesse Grabow witnessed a vehicle leave westbound I-94 near Alexandria and enter Lake Latoka. The vehicle was in danger of becoming submerged with the lone female driver still inside. Trooper Chris Halder, who was a short distance from the scene, responded to help Grabow get the driver out of the vehicle before it sank below the surface of the water.
While the troopers worked to get the driver out, two Good Samaritans held onto a tow rope affixed to the trunk of the car helping to prevent it from sliding deeper into the channel. One was Aanders Jackson who had been traveling on I-94 and stopped when he saw the car leave the roadway.
It was later determined that the driver had suffered an epileptic seizure that had caused her to leave the road. Without the immediate assistance from Sgt. Grabow, Trooper Halder and Jackson, she very likely would have drowned on her 27th birthday.
For his actions, Aanders Jackson is presented with the Meritorious Citizenship Award. For their actions, Sgt. Grabow and Trooper Halder were presented with Life Saving Awards.
