Letter: Swenson journalism aids civic involvement in govt.

We'd like to extend our sincere congratulations to Bemidji Pioneer Opinion Page and Political Editor Brad Swenson on being awarded the George S. Hage Award for Excellence and the David L. Graven Award for contributions to excellence in the journalism profession.

In times of economic turmoil, rapidly changing political debate, and complex public policy discussions, Minnesotans depend more than ever on reliable information to help them understand breaking news and events.

Brad's brand of high-quality journalism is a community asset that helps sustain democracy and encourage civic participation, and is increasingly hard to find in an era of 24-hour news cycles.

Northern Minnesota residents are fortunate to have a journalist of Brad's caliber to help them make sense of the day's news. He is consistently fair and objective in his analysis, and his commitment to telling the whole story puts in him a league with very few of his peers.

Congratulations to Brad and the Bemidji Pioneer for this exceptional recognition.
