Letter: Outlaw deer shining only to those with guns in car

I am writing in regard to the possible enactment of a new deer shining law. As I understand the article, it will prohibit all shining. As a 75-year-old deer hunter, I must object to this. It is probably the only time I will ever get to see a big buck.

At present weapons properly cased are allowed in vehicles participating in shining. I see no need for weapons in a vehicle participating in recreational shining. This only encourages poachers. Make the law read, weapons found in a vehicle are proof of poaching intent. Confiscate the vehicle and the weapons and take away all hunting rights for a very long time.

I live in the Guthrie area and quite often, I hear gunshots at night. A law like this should prevent most poaching.
