Leila Moser, 83, of Arlington SD died on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at the United Living Community in Brookings, SD.

Leila was born in St. Kilian, MN on February 14, 1931 to John and Victoria (Spahn) Burkard. Leila attended school in St. Kilian and worked outside the home helping neighbors during times of need. Leila married Thomas Moser on September 12, 1950 on her parents farm near St. Kilian, MN. Tom and Leila moved to South Dakota where they lived in Howard, Brookings and then finally settled in Arlington in 1968. Leila stayed home with their seven children until the youngest started school. Leila started out selling Avon and then worked for Community Action in Brookings from 1970 to 1976. Leila started at 3M in Brookings in 1976 and retired in 1991. She lived in her home in Arlington until 2010 at which time she moved into Assisted Living in Brookings. After a fall, she moved into United Living Community. Leila was always busy caring for the home and children. She loved gardens, both vegetables and flowers, and just spending time outside. She loved being with her family and helping watch over the grandchildren. She selflessly dedicated her life to her children.

She is survived by seven children, Dan (Jessica) Moser of Sioux Falls, Kevin Moser of Hetland, Diane (Richard) Converse of Arlington, Joe (Linda) Moser of Milroy, MN, Wanda (Wes) VanDyke of Elkton, Lisa (Doug) Vognild of Sioux Falls, and Curt Moser of Brookings. She has five grandchildren, Emily (Travis) Mosley of Brookings, Sonia Moser of Sioux Falls, Ashley Converse of Arlington, Dustin (Minneapolis) and Morgan Vognild of Sioux Falls; and two great grandchildren, Logan and Landon. She is also survived by two brothers Melvin (Betty) of Worthington, MN and Jack (Jean) Burkard of Raleigh NC.

Leila is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas, her brother Don and her baby boy Roger.

Visitation will be held Tuesday May 27th at 5:00-7:00pm at Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 28th at 10:30am at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home with Fr. Rod Farke officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
