Leech Lake boxers compete in Region 4 Golden Gloves event

WADENA — The Region 4 Golden Gloves boxing tournament will be today and Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Wadena. Three members of the Leech Lake Boxing Club will be in action in the open division.

Boxing will begin at 7 p.m. today with the semifinals and the finals will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Leech Lake group includes Chaskae Roper (132 pounds), Charles Oothoudt (141 pounds) and Michael Robinson Jr. (super heavyweight).

The open division champions will advance to the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves tournament April 19-20 at the Palace Casino Hotel in Cass Lake.

Last weekend Leech Lake boxers won two of three bouts at a card in East Grand Forks. Andrew Goodwin lost a decision in the 185 pound division to Lorenzo Caldona of Moorhead but Roper won a decision over Eddie Cook of Red Lake.

Ronnie Hulett also boxed and he decisioned Logan Bird of Crookston in the 115 pound weight class.
