Leech Lake Band gets MDA grant

The Minnesota Department of Health has awarded the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe a $1.36 million grant, one of 39 MDA grants to communities to help lower the number of Minnesotans who use or are exposed tobacco or who are obese or overweight. The grants cover 86 out of Minnesota's 87 counties and eight of 11 tribal governments.

The Leech Lake Band's grant is for planning and assessment. The implementation date is April 1.

The Band's partners are the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, Red Lake Comprehensive Health Services, Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe, Grand Portage Band Tribal Office, White Earth Band of Ojibwe and Fond du Lac Reservation.
