Leah (Magnell) Johnson, 95, of Huron, S.D., formerly of Oklee, Minn., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at SunQuest Health Care Center in Huron.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee with the Rev. Robert Paulson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Oklee.
She was born May 7, 1913, to Carl and Betsy (Thompson) Magnell in rural Oklee. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural Oklee schools. She married Clarence Johnson June 29, 1935, in Oklee. They farmed in the Oklee area. After they retired, they spent many winters in California and Arizona. She has lived near her daughter, Lyla Rice, in Huron for the past 13 years. She was a resident of the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
She is survived by a daughter, Lyla Rice of Huron; a son, Curtis (Carol) Johnson of Bemidji; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1994; sisters, Amanda Hegtvedt, Dora Lovaas and Beatrice Strom; brothers, Otto, Clarence and Joseph' and a son-in-law.
