ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A group of Minnesota's black faith leaders and members of their congregations held a state Capitol rally on the 45th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.

About 175 people gathered Thursday in the Capitol rotunda. The rally was organized by a group known as ISAIAH, a non-profit coalition of over 100 congregations from various faith traditions in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.

The goal was to urge lawmakers to eliminate racial inequality. The group says the black community has traditionally been left out of the public decision-making process. The Rev. Brian Herron is pastor at Zion Baptist Church in Minneapolis. He says it's time for the community and elected leaders to work together and create long-term policies.
