Lawyer: Apology closes Minn. school lockdown case
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

NEW PRAGUE, Minn. (AP) — An attorney says a 12-year-old boy and his family have apologized for a prank 911 call that prompted a school lockdown in New Prague.

Defense attorney Marsh Halberg tells KARE-TV the public apologies closed the case Monday.

The boy was arrested March 20 after two calls were made about a shooter on the school campus with an assault rifle.

According to Halberg, the boy used a deactivated cellphone that was still capable of calling 911 to call in the phony report during a bathroom break. Halberg says the boy told police he did it because he "likes bright, shiny lights and police officers."

The Scott County attorney's office declined to comment on the juvenile case. It's unclear whether the boy's family will have to pay for law enforcement response.
