Laura A. Jones, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, August 22, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Laura Ann Glasow was born the daughter of Arnold and Marie (Piper) Glasow on Dec. 19, 1918, in Davenport, N.D. She was raised and educated in rural Davenport.
Laura married Carmie Jones on June 13, 1940. They worked at Meyer's Dairy Farm and also farmed in Davenport. In 1951 they moved to Audubon, where they continued to farm. The couple moved to the Floyd Lake area in 1969. Carmie passed away on July 20, 1981, and Laura moved to Detroit Lakes in 1990.
Laura helped organize two homemaker clubs, the Davenport-Addison Club in Davenport and the Au-Ha Club in Audubon. She also loved being a Lake Region Garden Club member. Her favorite pastime was entertaining family and friends at coffee and dinner parties. She had resided at the Lamplighter and Emmanuel Nursing Home for the last several years.
Laura is survived by her daughter, Sandra (David) Olson of Shoreview, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Karen Jones of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Larson of Spokane, Wash.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Laura in death were her parents, husband Carmie; son, Monte; sister, Helen Schmidt; and two brothers, Ervin and Donald.
