Laporte teacher wins WEM award
Stephen Booth, a third-grade teacher at Laporte Elementary School, is a recipient of a 2009 WEM Outstanding Educator Award for Teacher Achievement, an honor that is accompanied by a $10,000 award.
Booth is one of six educators being honored by the WEM Foundation and the Center for Academic Excellence for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to student learning. He is one of two recipients of the WEM Foundation's statewide Teacher Achievement Award, which recognizes exemplary teachers who support, inspire and assist students to attain greater learning as evidenced by student achievement.
"From the moment that you meet Steve, you will very quickly realize that he is a truly gifted master teacher, parent, leader, co-worker and citizen," said Gregg Parks, Laporte Elementary School principal, in a press release from the Center for Academic Excellence.
Booth has taught for 16 years and was awarded the Fulbright Teacher Exchange to Birmingham, England, from 2004-05.
