UPDATE: Final Minnesota legislative bills may be passed in middle of the night

Lake County cited in worker’s death

TWO HARBORS — Lake County has received three citations from the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration in a worker’s death, with fines totaling more than $30,000.

Lee Roy Jacobson, a heavy-equipment operator for the county, died in May after the excavator he was operating fell into a river near where he had been clearing ice.

County Administrator Matt Huddleston said at Tuesday’s board meeting that the county contested the citations, and OSHA and the county are negotiating a settlement.

“We’re trying to make the best decision,” Huddleston said.

OSHA is the division of the U.S. Department of Labor that ensures healthy and safe working conditions.
