Lack of spring flooding prompts marathon course change to include Moorhead
FARGO, N.D. -- This year's Fargo marathon route will snake into neighboring Moorhead, Minn., after the lack of spring flooding.
The 26.2-mile route initially had been planned entirely in Fargo, which has dealt with major Red River flooding the past three springs. That wasn't the case this spring, and The Forum newspaper reports that a 1.5-mile section of the marathon has been mapped out in Moorhead.
An official with USA Track & Field is to come to Fargo on April 9 to certify the new route.
The 8th annual Scheels Fargo Marathon is May 19. Other marathon events are scheduled the preceding two days. More information can be found at http://www.fargomarathon.com .
