Lack of offense costly for Bemidji State women's basketball

Bemidji State shot a dismal 25 percent from the field in its 60-39 loss to Minnesota-Duluth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's baseketball on Saturday at the Romano Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs raced ahead to an early 12-2 lead and never looked back.

The Beavers had a ten minute stretch in the first half where they were unable to make a field goal. Minnesota-Duluth closed the first half on a 7-2 run to open up a 36-18 lead at the break.

Bemidji State suffered another five minute scoreless stretch to start the second half and trailed 41-18.

The Beavers outscored the Bulldogs 21-19 over the final 15 minutes, but the outcome was decided early on.

Sophomore guard Morgan Lee led the Beavers by scoring 16 points.

Katrina Newman also scored 16 points to lead UMD. She added a game-high 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Freshman Paige Tomkins finished with a career-high six rebounds for Bemidji State.

Bemidji State (8-13 6-10 NSIC) looks to bounce back next week, hosting Minnesota-Crookston on Friday.
