Kutch to head Trinity Health in Minot, N.D.
MINOT, N.D. -- John M. Kutch, a Bemidji native and president and CEO of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, was named to a similar position with Trinity Health here, both systems announced Friday.
Trinity Health Board Chairman Patrick Holien said plans for the executive transition are underway. An executive search began last summer after Terry Hoff announced he would retire in June after 38 years with Trinity Health, 22 years as president.
"We're extremely pleased to attract someone with John's record of strong leadership and management," Holien said. "He's exactly the person we need to lead Trinity Health into the future."
Kutch was named president and CEO of Grand Itasca in October 2007, coming back to Minnesota from the post he held as chief operating officer and senior vice president of Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport, La. He assumed the Grand Rapids post in December 2007.
Kutch is a Bemidji native while his wife, Nicole, is a native of Minot. While in Grand Rapids, Kutch advanced initiatives to improve patient outcomes and strengthen the organization's finances, the two systems said.
He spent six years with Willis-Knighton Health System of Shreveport - Louisiana's largest multi-hospital health system. Initially he served as vice president of revenue cycle operations and management, becoming COO and senior vice president in 2005.
As COO, he was responsible for day-to-day operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. The statement said. Under his stewardship the system earned numerous honors for excellence, including recognition as a Top 100 Hospital in 2005 and a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital in 2005 and 2006.
Earlier in his career he held CEO positions at Heartland Independent Provider Network Inc. of Fargo, N.D., and Mobridge Regional Hospital in South Dakota.

Kutch was graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and financial management. In 1996 he earned the a master's degree in health services administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati. A member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, he and his wife have two children, Will and Grace.
Trinity Health is a non-profit, integrated health care system with three hospitals, two nursing homes, a network of regional clinics and Trinity Medical Group, a network of more than 150 doctors and other providers. With a staff of more than 2,700 employees, Trinity is the region's largest employer.
