Kootasca Senior Center News
Approximately 20 quilts made by senior center members have been donated to the International Falls Hospital, a regional women's shelter, Grace House in Grand Rapids and the Northome Food Shelf.
The center also donated money to Project Linus in Blackduck to help pay for the postage to send blankets and quilts to aid in the relief efforts in Haiti and also for Haitian orphans arriving in Florida.
The center has again been utilized for the usual meetings and social events.
The whist players are busy playing cards every Friday at 1 p.m. at the center. (And, by the way, anyone who wants to play whist is welcome to come join the group). Top winners for the past month include Bob Malterud, Ron Lindner (twice), Bill Luadtke and Betty Boquist.
New acoustic tiles have been added to the ceiling to absorb noise during these types of events in the future. This will be especially appreciated for the next major event at the center.
On March 13 at 11 a.m., the Grand Rapids area male chorus (formerly known as the Blandin male chorus) will present a free concert at the Northome Senior Center. This will be immediately followed by a Think Spring salad lunch also at the center. Donations will be accepted for the lunch as this is the spring fundraiser for the senior center. Everyone is invited to attend!
