The center has been humming along this fall with a wide variety of events and activities taking place there, including KAP board and commissioner's meetings, anniversary and birthday parties and the annual St. Michael's booya dinner which was a big success, as usual.

The Second Annual October's Best Fall Craft Fair was held Oct. 24 with great community support for this event again this year. This year, in the free quilt drawing, the beautiful quilt with fall colors was won by Dorothy Matta and the special senior center membership drive prize, a long-eared bunny doll made by Alyce Reinarz, was won by Sue Salmonson.

The members of Kootasca Senior Center hosted the regional meeting of the Elder's Advisory Council in November. This council is composed of members of all area senior groups in Koochiching County. The members of the council may bring their issues and needs to the attention of various Koochiching County organizations for services and assistance. At this meeting, senior members came from Loman and International Falls. Representatives from several county agencies such as Koochiching Aging Options, the RSVP (volunteer program) and Arrowhead Transit attended and explained how they can provide service and assistance to seniors in our area.

The most exciting program available to seniors in the Northome area is the expanded Arrowhead Transit bus service. A new bus was just delivered to Northome! At the present time, the bus travels from the Northome Apartments to Grand Rapids (with stops along the way for anyone wanting to stop) Tuesday and Thursday of each week. The fare for one way service to Grand Rapids is just $2.40 (the round trip cost is $4.80). It leaves in the morning and returns in the afternoon. It will drop off and pick up people at their own particular destination. The bus can accommodate wheel chairs and walkers, too. Call 1-800-862-0175 to learn more about this service and schedule. The bus service is not limited to this scheduled route.

Plans are underway to include a stop in Northome to pick up people who want to go to Bemidji. Any group of five or more persons can make arrangements to rent the bus for $29 to attend any entertainment event in either Grand Rapids or Bemidji, or points in between. Sue Countryman is the local driver for the Northome area.
