Kelliher School helps Haiti earthquake victims

Students, staff and community members of the Kelliher School District were involved in a fundraiser to Help Haiti. The Kelliher FCCLA, Student Council, and the National Honor Society members worked together to provide the leadership for this fundraiser. All money collected is going to help the people of Haiti that were victims of the earthquake in January.

The fundraising started Jan. 15 and ran through Jan. 29. The Kelliher leaders were motivated by the mass devastation from the earthquake.

Donation jars were placed in elementary classrooms and in the office for high school students and staff. Students, staff, and community members were asked to bring in donations of money for Haiti. This was a competition between grade levels in K-6 and 7-12. FCCLA also sold cookies and swirls on Fridays with all the money donated to Help Haiti.

The kindergarteners won the elementary challenge with $ 212.60 and the ninth graders won with $346.90. For their prize the kindergarteners made and enjoyed monster cookies with the students in the Foreign Foods class. The ninth graders will be creating banana splits. The final total of money collected is $2,244.27. Thank you to everyone that donated to this worthy cause.
