Kelliher FCCLA members advance to Nationals -- Life's A Canvas Create It!
Fourteen members of the Kelliher FCCLA Chapter along with chapter advisor Vicky Rabe and chaperones Peggy Vollhaber and Karyn Lutz, attended the FCCLA State Conference at the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel April 14-17.
The main speaker at the state meeting general session Thursday was Sam Glenn.
Glenn captivated the members with his wild sense of humor and his dramatic on-stage chalk art performance. Sam has successfully turned his attention deficit disorder into a strength that connects with the audience. At the opening session, Rabe was recognized as an honorary member and Nathan Deno was recognized with the Alumni Contribution Award.
The STAR event competition results are as follows: Earning silver ratings were Charlie Schuh in Career Investigation, Sr., on becoming a lawyer; Alisha Gehlert and Ann Poxlieter Focus on Children, Sr., For the Love of Reading and Shelene Head and Heather Van Wert for See What We've Done, Jr., Protecting You/Protecting Me.
Earning gold ratings were Katey Lutz and Cassie Vollhaber in Chapter Showcase Manual, Sr. and Mark Geerdes, Mitchell Nistler and Al Nistler in Applied Technology, Jr., Final Addresses.
Alisha Gehlert, Region 7 President, led the Region 7 meeting at state. Caitlyn Duresky, Kristi Geerdes, Evan Nelson and Travis Burns also attended the meeting as chapter delegates and room consultants.
Saturday's general session included Greg Lenn, the installation of the new state officers and the announcement of the national advancers.
