Keith E. Mooney
Keith E. Mooney, 82, of Redlands, Calif., formerly of Bemidji, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 115 W. Olive Ave., in Redlands. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., in Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave. in Redlands.
He was born Sept. 28, 1926, to Ethel (Lien) and Sylvester Mooney in Clarkfield, Minn. He graduated from Bath Exempted Village School in Kansas in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He married Harriet Morlan in Bemidji in 1949. He joined the National Guard in 1950 and was activated in the U.S. Army from 1951-52. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 and earned his master's degree in 1956. He taught and coached at Olivia, Minn., and Park Rapids. He taught at Bemidji State in 1957. He and Harriet moved to Redlands, where he taught and coached at Cope Junior High for 17 years and Moore for 16 years. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Athletics at Bemidji State University. He retired, after 38 years of teaching in 1990. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Redlands for 52 years and a summer member of St. Charles Church in Cass Lake.
He is survived by his wife; children, Karen (Barry) Mowers of Little Falls, Minn.; Mary Mooney and Carol (Mark) Lenchner of Redlands, Kevin Mooney of Riverside, Calif., and David Mooney of Palm Desert, Calif.; brother, Don (Gladys) of Shan, Wis.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Robert, Richard and Sylvester Jr.
